Tubeless

  • The current DT Swiss wheels are tubeless-ready and come with mounted tubeless rim tape and corresponding valves. For conversion, you will need a tubeless-capable tire (optimal: UST) and tire sealant. You can find both at an official dealer. Our How To video will take you through step-by-step assembly.

If you have previously ridden your bike with a tube or if the tape no longer sticks properly to the rim, we recommend that you replace the rim tape as a precaution.

How to attach the tubeless rim tape:

    1. Measure the inside width of the rim.

    2. The tubeless rim tape should be approx. 2 mm wider than the rim and can be bought from a specialist store.

    3. Apply the tubeless rim tape. Depending on the rim/tire combination, it may be helpful to apply two or three layers of tubeless rim tape to optimally seal the rim bed.

    55
  • If the valve or tubeless tape is not attached correctly, air or tire sealant may get into the rim cavity and then leak out around the seam area. Ensure that the valve is seated properly, the tubeless tape is lying flat and the entire rim bed is covered with tubeless tape, including the inner side wall.

If there is too big a gap between the tire and the rim tape, the tire sealant won't seal quickly enough. It can help to add a second or third layer of tubeless tape here to ensure a closer fit between the tire and rim.

Bear in mind that sufficient tire sealant must be used for the first tubeless setup. You'll find the manufacturer's instructions on your tire sealant.

Carbon Wheels

  • At temperatures of 200 degrees, carbon will start to wave and lose its stability.

The exhaust gases from a car can be up to 500 degrees Celsius. When transporting your carbon wheel with a rear carrier, make sure that there is sufficient distance to avoid such defects!

Contact the manufacturer of your rear carrier for a protective device.

If you discover this deformation on your wheel, contact our Service Centre.

Wheels

  • There are various reasons why your bike might be making a weird noise when riding. If the noise is coming from the wheel, the following checks might help.

    Check:

    • Is the quick-release / thru axle tightened with 15-20 Nm?
    • Are there cracks in the hub housing or freehub body?
    • Are there signs of wear on the spoke crossings?
    • Is the spoke tension even?

See also Section 5 "Maintenance & Care" in the user manual.

For professional evaluation, please contact our Service Center or a dealer. A video or audio recording of the problem would help us analyze the issue.

    23
  • We display the current product range on the website. Older models are also listed in the Product Support section. Search for your product via DT Swiss ID or filter under Product Support.

If it cannot be found, it may be a product made specifically for your bike brand. In this case, please contact either the bike manufacturer or our Service Center. They can quickly identify the product via the production code.

  • Product classification for intended use

Bike parts and components are always developed and built for a certain use. They are constructed specifically for this use and for the stresses expected for this use.

The intended use of DT Swiss products is divided into five categories, from riding on paved roads to downhill and freeride riding. Read more

Hubs

  • Regular hub service is worth it! Dust and dirt cause wear parts to wear out faster, which can impair function. We recommend cleaning the hub every 12 months and lubricating it with a suitable grease. Here you can find How To videos and user manuals for hub servicing. If you need to replace a ratchet, please contact our Service Center or a dealer.

    37
  • There are various reasons why the freehub may be stuck. Our technical manuals can help you find the cause:

Please check the user manual in section 3.

For professional evaluation, please contact our Service Center or a dealer.

You can also convert our Pawl hubs to the Ratchet LN System. You can buy the Ratchet LN upgrade kit from dealers. The How To video explains conversion step by step.

  • For MTB, boost hubs have become the new industry standard. The greater bearing distance increases the lateral stiffness of the bike and reduces ball bearing wear.

Unfortunately, you cannot convert non-boost hubs to wider distances nor boost to narrower distances (non-boost). This is because the boost hubs are wider in the center.

    49
  • First go to Product Support and select your wheel/hub by using the DT Swiss ID or filter. Under "Spare Parts" you will find the exact details about the installed ball bearings. Open the HUBS dropdown menu and scroll down the list to the ball bearings. You will also find helpful How To videos and manuals. Make a note of the material number and order from your dealer.

    The picture shows an example.

    20
  • DT Swiss uses industrial ball bearings in all its hubs and these are easy to replace when necessary. We recommend carrying out a hub service once a year. Our How To video will take you through this step by step.

It's important to always use the right tools and a suitable grease so that you don't damage the hub. You can find a list of the tools required in our manual and buy the right tools from a dealer. Make a note of the material number and order from your dealer.

Tires

  • The tire should be pumped in line with the manufacturer's instructions, in order to ensure optimum rolling resistance.

Note: This can vary depending on the tire manufacturer and model. The tire pressure impacts both the ride comfortability and stability of the wheel. See our tire pressure table for an overview of maximum tire pressures depending on tire and rim width.

Wheels

  • Use our Wheel Finder to find the right wheel for your bike and requirements in only a few steps. If you have any further questions or would like advice, please contact a dealer. They'll be happy to help you.

  • In cycling, rim height significantly impacts the aerodynamics, maneuverability and weight of the wheel. Basically, the higher the rim, the greater the aerodynamic advantage. The lower the rim, the more agile and maneuverable the handling.

  • Caution when choosing brake pads for wheels with rim brakes!

    • Only "SwissStop Black Prince" brake pads may be used on carbon rims.
    • Only "SwissStop BXP Blue" brake pads may be used on OXIC rims.

The use of incorrect brake pads can cause the rim to fail. DT Swiss takes no responsibility in this case. Please also note that brake pads which were previously used on aluminum rims must not be used on carbon rims. The aluminum abrasion in the brake pad can destroy the carbon. For further information about your wheel, please refer to the user manual.

If you notice these damage patterns on your wheel, contact a service center.

    24
  • Tires with different widths and profiles are used depending on the surface. There are different recommendations for inner rim width depending on the choice of tire width for the respective road cycling purpose.

  • 700C (622 mm/29 inches) is the most common wheel size for road racing. The classic 650B wheel size (584 mm/27.5 inches) is still used in certain applications and is a bit more stable, thanks to the smaller diameter. Just like the competition-oriented 650C wheel size (559 mm/26 inches). Each wheel size offers unique advantages for different kinds of riding.

  • Each of the current standard wheel sizes (26", 27.5" and 29") has advantages and disadvantages. The larger the wheel, the better it rolls over obstacles. However, as the size grows, so does the weight and therefore the rotating mass, which decreases the bike's liveliness.

  • As wider rims have developed, so have wider tires. However, the different tire and rim widths are not universally compatible. Essentially: The wider the rim, the wider the tires that can be fitted.
